Melanie Rae Lockwood Project Runway Moda Winner Melanie Rae Lockwood is a Tucson native, born in 1989. Her early years were spent in the East side of Tucson with the mountains surrounding her as she grew.She attended Sabino High School and graduated in 2007. After graduation she decided to attend PIma Community College where she enrolled in the clothing design course to assist her in recieving the tools she needed to accomplish her goals as a fashion designer. Melanie has aspired to be a fashion designer since she started sewing at age ten. She will be graduating Pima Community College the spring semester of 2010. After graduation she will transfer to The University of Arizona and enroll in the Retail and Consumer Science program. After graduation from the U of A she would like to enter into an internship in the fashion industry. Her long term goals include starting her own cottage industry selling her own creations, as well as outsourcing her designing and sewing skills. Melanies' favorite things to sew are cocktail dresses and funky urban wear. Her inspiration comes from a varitey of sources including the colors of the scenic Sonoran desert as well as a photos, jewelry, glass, and vintage fashion. She is doing the Moda Provacateur because she sees it as an oppurtunity for exposure and attaining buissness connections. More importantly she is doing the competition to support the Southern Arizona Aids foundation and help raise awarness of the epidemic. AIDS strikes close to home with Melanie as her relative has had AIDS for more than twenty five years and she has been witness to its affects. |
